Cheap Wigs - Care For Your Wig

SHOULD YOU BUY EXPENSIVE OR CHEAP WIGS?

Should You Buy Expensive Or Cheap Wigs?

Should you buy expensive or cheap wigs? It is true what they say, you get what you pay for and especially when it comes to buying wigs. The more you spend, the better quality of wig you will get. A good quality wig will not only look better but it also means that it will last longer.

But even natural hair wigs come with varying prices according to quality and length of the hair used and the craftsmanship of the hairpiece itself. So, before you buy a wig, carefully investigate all of your options. Choosing a good wig now may save you money in the end because you will probably never have to replace it.

1. How Often Are You Going To Wear Your Wig?

Many women wear wigs to change their appearance or to create a dramatic look for a special occasion. Others wear them daily to conceal thinning hair or alopecia due to a hereditary condition or the result of an illness.

If you are only going to use your wig occasionally for important events, you may be able to get by with an inexpensive wig.

If you plan to wear a wig on a daily basis, you should look for wigs that are light and finely woven. These tend to be human hair wigs that are more expensive.

It should allow a good amount of air to circulate through the wig and onto your scalp. This is not only for your own comfort but for the well being of your natural hair.

Tight and constrictive wigs can cause friction and cut off the blood supply to your scalp resulting in hair loss. Most wigs fit a head circumference of 21.5 – 22.5 inches. The wig should be worn on the natural hairline, in both the front and the back of the head and approximately four fingers above the eyebrows.

2. Do You Want A Natural Look?

Wigs that are made from human hair have a more natural look than those made with synthetic hair strands.

All wigs contain a cap, which is its base, where the hair is attached using numerous different techniques. The hair is attached in wefts on the wig. Hair strings are doubled over and closely sewn together in longer strands.

Cheap wigs are not finely wefted. That means that more hair is sewn into one weft of the wig instead of evenly distributed throughout, resulting in a head of hair that you might see on that of a doll or mannequin.

Additionally, since most inexpensive wigs are made with synthetic hair, it is almost impossible to achieve a truly natural look or to match with your existing hair colour.

3. How Will You Style Your Wig?

Most good quality synthetic wigs require very little care and maintenance since they retain the curl, wave, texture and volume due to the ‘memory’ of the monofilament hair fibre.

However, they cannot be coloured, permed or curled with thermal tools. Therefore, styling is limited with cheap wigs.

For more flexibility, a human hair wig is the best choice especially if you wear it on a daily basis. Whilst these wigs are more expensive, you can colour it, cut it and curl it just like you would your own hair because it is real hair.

These wigs need lot of care, and like your own hair, they should be cleaned with shampoo, dried, and conditioned to preserve its natural look and feel.

If you do not have the time or inclination to adhere to a strict wig maintenance routine, opt for a synthetic blend wig resembling human hair.
